Meet Derrick & Lovisa
Derrick Lightning has performed with Dave Grohl (from Foo Fighters and Nirvana), George Thorogood (who wrote Bad to the Bone) plus many other famous musicians. He’s has performed at Carnegie Hall, recorded at The Hit Factory and played many more notable venues. Derrick loves interacting with the crowd and making people smile.
From performing for the king of Sweden to collaborating with legends such as Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA and Toots Thielemans - Lovisa Lightning is a versatile vocalist and instrumentalist who brings a depth and range to every event. Whether performing jazz, soul, pop, rock, or RnB, Lovisa’s voice according to past clients captivates and moves audiences with its pure emotion and depth.
Together, we toured both the US and Europe and we’ve had the honor of performing on the world’s most prestigious stages - from America’s got talent, LA’s Troubadour, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Viper Room to Molly Malone’s and The Mint.
Dare To Love Music was formed in Hollywood in June 2021. The name stems from their journey from friends to lovers to getting married and daring to love each other. Derrick and Lovisa bring these feelings of love and connection to every performance they play.
Our Story
Once upon a time during in Hollywood during Covid in a locked down city Derrick and Lovisa lived unaware of one another's existence.
One of Lovisa's biggest fears and, dreams was to write and perform her own music.
The famous old-Hollywood bar, "Black Rabbit Rose", with its amazingly talented artists got Lovisa inspired, especially one - Derrick. He was like no one else with his talent, humbleness, outrageousness and amazing song writing.
To express her gratitude, Lovisa wrote her first song in years inspired by Derrick's brave and beautiful personality and sent him a voice memo.
The name of the song was "Thank You". Derrick was touched and moved by Lovisa's singing and curious to hear more.
Previously when playing at Black Rabbit Rose Derrick has played as a sideman with Lovisa watching in the audience.
Lovisa saw Derrick playing again on the side and proclaimed "you're going to play here as the leader.
I'm not leaving this place until you ask the event planner to perform here." Derrick did and he got a show date!
On May 13th 2020 Derrick performed his music in Los Angeles for the first time together with Lovisa as the singer.
Shortly after in June 2021 Dare To Love - their musical duo, was born.
Derrick fell in love with Lovisa. Lovisa loved Derrick too... as a friend.
The rest is history…
On April 12th 2022, Derrick proposed to Lovisa onstage at "Black Rabbit Rose”, the first place they ever met
and where Lovisa had dreamed to play at.
A year later Derrick and Lovisa were pronounced as husband and wife as they got married in the power of daring to love.
Shortly after they gave birth to their lovely daughter - Melody.
